Our Mission

The internet is full of "best of" lists, but almost all of them are written by a single person or a small editorial team. These lists reflect individual taste, not collective wisdom. Pickometer exists to change that. Our mission is to build the world's largest and most comprehensive database of community-driven matchups, where rankings are earned through votes, not handed down by gatekeepers.

We believe that the most interesting data comes from aggregating thousands of individual opinions. When enough people weigh in on whether Messi is better than Ronaldo, or whether Netflix beats Disney+, the resulting data tells a genuinely interesting story. It captures the collective sentiment of a community at a specific point in time, and that has real value, both as entertainment and as information.

Every ranking on Pickometer is derived exclusively from community votes. There is no editorial override, no paid placement, and no algorithmic manipulation. If an item is ranked number one, it earned that position through consistent community preference. Full stop. We publish exact vote counts and percentages for every matchup, so you can verify any ranking yourself.

Comprehensive Category Coverage

Pickometer covers a wide range of topics. Our current categories include sports (football, basketball, and more), music (hip-hop, rock, pop), movies, TV shows, video games, technology, food, brands, animals, celebrities, superheroes, anime, countries, and viral debates. We add new categories regularly based on community requests and emerging trends.

Head-to-Head Methodology

We use pairwise matchups because they produce more reliable results than traditional polls. Instead of asking "Who is the best footballer?" and presenting 20 options (which leads to vote splitting and popularity bias), we ask "Is Messi better than Ronaldo?" one matchup at a time. Pickometer's results update instantly. When you cast a vote, the percentages, totals, and rankings refresh in real time. There is no waiting for a daily or weekly update. This means the data always reflects the most current state of community opinion, which is especially interesting for topics where sentiment shifts over time.

The Team Behind Pickometer

Pickometer is built and maintained by a small, dedicated team of developers and content enthusiasts who are passionate about data, design, and great debates. We are not backed by venture capital or corporate interests. We are independent, which means we answer to our users, not to shareholders.

Every member of the team uses Pickometer themselves. We vote on matchups, browse the rankings, and read the comments. We understand the platform from the user's perspective because we are users. This informs every decision we make about features, design, and policy.

Our Technology

Pickometer is built on modern, reliable technology. Our frontend is a server-rendered Next.js application that delivers fast page loads, excellent SEO, and a smooth experience on any device. Our backend runs on Supabase, which provides a PostgreSQL database and robust authentication. We deploy on cloud infrastructure that scales automatically with traffic.

We take security seriously. User passwords are hashed using industry-standard algorithms. Sessions are encrypted and managed securely. Our data handling practices are documented in our Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy.
