Frequently Asked Questions

Got questions about Pickometer? Here are answers to the most common questions we receive about voting, matchups, rankings, accounts, and the platform in general.

General Questions

What is Pickometer?

Pickometer is a community-driven voting platform where real people settle real debates through head-to-head matchups. Users vote on pairwise matchups across categories like sports, music, movies, technology, food, and many more. Every vote counts toward community-wide rankings that reflect what people actually think. Unlike traditional "best of" lists written by a single person, Pickometer's results are purely democratic and data-driven.

Is Pickometer free to use?

Yes. Pickometer is completely free. You can browse matchups, view rankings, and explore categories without paying anything. Creating an account is also free and unlocks voting, commenting, and tracking your voting history. Pickometer is supported by advertising, which allows us to keep the platform free for everyone.

Do I need an account to vote?

Yes. Voting requires a free account - it only takes a minute to create one with your email address. Requiring an account is how we enforce one-vote-per-person and keep the results trustworthy. You can browse every matchup and see the results without an account.

Voting

How do I vote?

Simply click or tap the item you prefer in any matchup. Your vote is recorded instantly and results are shown in real time. You will see the percentage split, total vote count, and which option is currently leading.

Can I vote more than once on the same matchup?

No. Each account gets exactly one vote per matchup in each category. This is fundamental to maintaining fair, trustworthy results.

Can I change my vote?

Yes — use "Remove vote" on the matchup to retract yours, then pick again. The same matchup can also appear in different category scopes (for example, an album can be voted on in its genre category as well as overall), and you get one vote per scope.

Matchups and Categories

Where do the matchups come from?

Matchups are curated by our editorial team and generated from our item catalogue. Pick any item or category and Pickometer pairs it with a contender, so there is always a fresh debate waiting.

Can I suggest a new matchup or item?

Absolutely - suggestions are welcome. If you think a debate or an item is missing from Pickometer, let us know through our Contact page. We review every suggestion and add new items and categories regularly based on community interest.

Rankings

How are rankings calculated?

Rankings are based on win rates. An item's win rate is the percentage of votes it has received across all matchups it has appeared in within a category. Items that consistently receive more votes than their opponents will have higher win rates and rank higher. Rankings update in real time as new votes are cast. For a detailed explanation, see our Ranking Methodology page.

Can rankings be manipulated?

We take vote integrity very seriously. Each account is limited to one vote per matchup, and we use multiple techniques to detect and prevent vote manipulation including duplicate detection and anomaly monitoring. While no system is perfectly immune to manipulation, our safeguards make it extremely difficult for any individual or group to meaningfully affect rankings.

Accounts and Privacy

How do I create an account?

Click "Sign Up" in the header to create a new account with your email address. Account creation is free and takes less than a minute.

Is my data safe?

Yes. We follow industry-standard security practices. Passwords are hashed, sessions are encrypted, and we never sell personal data to third parties. For full details, please read our Privacy Policy.

Can I make my profile private?

Yes. By default, your voting activity is public, but you can toggle your profile visibility in your account settings. When your profile is private, other users cannot see your vote history.

Comments

Can I comment?

Yes, registered users can leave comments on any item page. Comments are a great way to share your reasoning, debate with other voters, or add context that might help others make their pick. You can also delete your own comments at any time.

Are comments moderated?

Yes. Comments that violate our community guidelines may be removed. We expect comments to be respectful, relevant, and constructive. Personal attacks, spam, and offensive content are not tolerated.
